We are a community sports organisation founded in 2021. We operate in the Cowdenbeath area which is a former mining and heavy industry town which over the years has suffered from unemployment and lack of investment meaning it is now below the averages in the Fife area in relation to income and health and features in the lower reaches of the Deprivation index. Our Charity offers football and physical exercise sessions for those aged 18 months to 80 years including providing activity sessions within our local Schools.
Evidence shows that early exposure to physical activity in children can instil good habits that last a lifetime. To that end we run sessions called "Boomers" for those aged 18 months to 3 years and "Kickers" for those aged 3-5 years. These fun sessions are designed to enhance and develop motor and coordination skills and also involve parents so there is a dual benefit in that the adult is being exposed to physical activity and the bonding between parent and chid is developed too. With a small grant from a local community group, we provided these sessions free of charge which resulted in a capacity sign up of 20 children in each group. £4000 would enable us to run the sessions for a year.
All our coaches are qualified to run this type of session and are First Aid qualified and child protection registered. We are well known in the area and our activities are popular. Our contacts with local organisations mean we a have an excellent reach to everyone including hard to reach groups. Our registration system for sessions means we are able to extract data such as identification of those from areas that are within the deprivation index. We are a cost effective organisation and with our Charity discount from the facility, the cost of a session is £40. We rent the adjacent Leisure Centre Hall for this activity at £20 per session | £2,000 |
Coach Costs | £2,000 |
80 people
We would be able to offer free or discounted sessions to 20 children and parents at each session, a total of 80 parents and children who will benefit from exposure to physical activity at an early age. Evidence shows that this can have a positive impact on child development and child/parent relationship and also instil good habits which can last a lifetime.
We have a good record of achievement despite only being in existence since 2021 Our activity and achievements can be viewed on our social media on Twitter and Facebook @CowdenCommunity
