The Pitch

Problem statement

The rise of technology has impacted young people. Technology can be an excellent tool to engage with the world. Thus, there are concerns about how it impacts the youths’ learning development and creates a digital divide. According to YMCA, 44% of young people report concerns with learning and, as mentioned in the government report, "82% of all jobs in the UK list digital skills as a requirement”. To help solve the above issues, we are delivering coding clubs across London to equip young people with employability and soft skills. Additionally, we want to tackle the digital divide and levelling up the community.

Solution

We seek funding to pay a tutor to help deliver the free coding clubs in Coombes Croft Library, Haringey. The coding club aims to engage young people with a positive alternative, thus helping to improve access to education, reduce anti-social behaviour, inspire change and develop positively. Research shows coding clubs help youths enhance learning and cultivate young person’s personal and study skills. Furthermore, to improve IT skills and isolation of being unable to access technology and the internet.

Why are we best placed to deliver?

Our CIC was founded by a qualified computer science teacher with more than nine years of teaching experience and more than four years of experience working in the IT industry. The founder successfully delivers adult IT skills training in Southwark and coding clubs in Southwark, Newham and Haringey. The young people enjoy attending the coding club sessions as they make new friends and learn new skills. As for the adults, they are grateful and appreciate learning valuable skills to help them navigate the virtual world.
