Cornwall's 'State of Nature' report highlighted the stark reality of biodiversity loss in Cornwall. Yet we are more dependent than ever on healthy and resilient ecosystems to guarantee long-term wellbeing for our communities. The problem is that community groups, community organisations and small businesses often do not have the capacity and resources to access the tools and resources available and implement positive and meaningful change in terms of environmental, economic and social sustainability. There have been many measurement tools produced on social value and the value of nature but often these are not free to use and are difficult to navigate.
The goal of our project is to deliver our NurturNatur toolkit, workshops and coaching to community groups and community organisations for free. Funding will support the delivery of workshops, the creation of resources and time with our NN coach at no cost. The impact of this work will be increased understanding and adoption of nature beneficial practices, clearer decision making on sustainability and self sufficiency in utilising measurement tools that demonstrate real impact. Groups and organisations will be able to use this information for future funding opportunities which will increase economic sustainability.
NurturNatur CIC is led by Jen Roskilly-Andrews. Jen has worked for over a decade in sustainable community development and has designed, procured and managed multiple award winning social and environmental programmes C. She has co-produced measurement tools with volunteers and consulted on the development of a Guided Conversation tool developed by Exeter University. Having worked in the third sector she is very aware of the challenge of finding the time and resource to develop and implement plans for positive social and environmental wellbeing. She is also joined by Suzi Todd - a mental health professional who delivers nature based counselling in Cornwall.
