At the beginning of the programme, each participant will be required to take the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q). The PAR-Q is a self-screening tool used by our coaches to determine the safety or possible risks of exercising based on your health history, current symptoms, and risk factors. The PAR-Q form will help our trainer create an ideal exercise prescription for a client. On a weekly basis, the coach will use the exercise prescription to measure fitness and weight loss. At the end of the 12-week programme, our coaches will provide fitness progress report for each participant to Islington NHS Social Prescribing Link workers Team Leader.
We have delivered successful boxing fitness programmes in Greenwich and Lambeth through collaborations with Oxley NHS Foundation Trust, Lambeth NHS Primary Care Network (PCN) and NHS Diabetes Health Coach for Lambeth. More recently, we have begun collaborating with Islington NHS Social Prescribing Link workers who reviewed our event at Longfield Hall (https://longfieldhall.org.uk) in Camberwell and asked if we could host similar events in Islington. We attend monthly “community breakfast” meetings which brings together those organising activities suitable for social prescribing across the area. Action on Obesity linked to Type 2 Diabetes is a common priority. Our previous 12-week programmes measured success by participants who achieved at least 20% weight loss from that registered at the beginning of the programme, increased fitness levels and a reduction in Type 2 diabetes marker.
