Young people are being more and more deprived of access to the arts and music education. Even though it’s a government priority, young people are rarely given adequate access to music education provision. We know that music participation can have a huge impact on the outcome of young people's lives, with people who play musical instruments achieving better results at school, improved social skills, better focus and concentration than their peers - all of which lead to better life outcomes. This is particularly true in areas of high deprivation, where young people have even less opportunity to access music education due to lack of provision or lack of funds.
Be the Band break down the barriers stopping people from becoming musicians by enabling young people to achieve playing familiar songs in a band setting without having to go through years of intensive training, sparking an interest in furthering this skill and opening up a lifetime of opportunities for our participants, not just in music. £3000 will enable us to run 30 hours of workshops - giving up to 180 young people the chance to discover and participate in a wonderful shared experience that will improve their mental wellbeing and build and strengthen friendships.
From our previous work in the community and a pilot programme funded by the Arts Council we have achieved incredible feedback from the young participants. 94% of participants said they felt proud of what they achieved 81% of participants said they were more likely to try learning a musical instrument after the sessions 100% of participants said the sessions made them feel happy 100% of participants said they would like to do it again We are a young and innovative organisation that uses technology to make a positive impact on everyone that takes part. With your help we can reach an even wider audience.

We will carry out before and after surveys with participants to measure how the sessions affect their mental wellbeing as well as their interest in pursuing further music education
In addition to the stats previously outlined, here are some testimonials from teachers when we've run these workshops in local schools: “Be the Band was a fantastic experience for our children - an inspirational workshop which pupils are still talking about. The skills and knowledge held by the team was excellent and pupils felt like true band members by the end of the day.” Mrs Asdoyuran, Headteacher Simon Marks Primary School “Had a great workshop with Be the Band last week! Brilliantly organised, easy set-up and really accessible musical activities that allowed all pupils to feel like they were part of a band – regardless of their prior experience. We had nothing but great feedback from all our pupils, and look forward to working with Be the Band again in the future.” Miss Foden, Music Teacher Stoke Newington School
