The Pitch

Problem statement

We have been running free weekly programming workshops since 2013, 2,035 in total so far. In this time we have helped over 18,000 minority group members to learn to code and persue their dream career in the technology industry. We are an extremely small charity and we need financial support paying for some marketing materials after some design tweaks. We'd also like to invest some money into growing our numbers.

Solution

The goal of this project is to complete some focused marketing in order to reach as many minority group members as possible in London. Our workshops themselves are very unique, in that is it not a teacher at the front and 20 student following along set up. Ours are very different in that, we pair a student with a more experienced developer, and they then work together on a small project or tutorials together. This 2 person set up allows the student to feel very comfortable asking "scary" questions, and getting the most support possible.

Why are we best placed to deliver?

We've been running weekly programming workshops for minority group members in tech since October 2013. We've taught over 18,000 people so far (see more statistics here https://stats.codebar.io/). Many of our students go onto successful careers as software engineers, we have placed people in roles at The Guardian, Compare the Market, Lego, The Financial Times to name a few. This monetary support would allow us to reach and teach even more minority group members to code, and set them on a new and exciting career path in the technology industry.
