Expected impact

New women's team will have somewhere to train as a group on a Thursday evening - squad of 24 already. Crucial we train as a whole team to develop team spirit alongside technical skills as most completely new to cricket. Each net only safely allows 8 to train so currently only two thirds of the squad can train together. The nets installed will be safe (batting curtains) for players and sustainable (protection skirt) for the future meaning the investment will last for decades to come. Men's teams will be able to double their training sessions in the nets as twice as many players can train at once allowing for better skills development and team building as three teams (most of our Saturday players) will be able to train together. Dorking Women will be able to enter the women's league for the first time in 2023. Critical for young players to see these role models in their community. This will all attract new players to join - expect to double women's squad over next two years.

Track record

This year (Summer 2022) we renovated two of the four nets at the Cricket Club. They went from almost unplayable to a fantastic facility for both our adult and junior players. The nets practice this enabled in the final few weeks of the season allowed the women's coach to develop beginners core batting and bowling skills in the womens team meaning they went on to win their first ever match in August 2022 - a huge confidence boost for a team form in May 22, most of who had never bowled a ball in their life before this year. Improved facilities also meant that the mens 1st Team were able to raise the bat for their final few weeks and remain in their division when they were at risk of relegation with a few matches to go. Their improved form towards the end of the season is, in part, down to the practice made possible with the renovation of two of the nets. The nets were implemented on time and on budget: everyone agrees they are a fantastic community facility and are in constant use.
