The Pitch

Problem statement

During the lockdowns, we have been in constant communication with club members and the Handball Association, educating ourselves on problems that grew in local communities. The statistics coming from Handball Association and feedback gathered on a local level show that general awareness of women's sports lowered and inactivity is more prevalent. On top of the data from the England Handball Association, we conducted our research and local interviews. It became obvious to us that there exists widespread hunger to get women more active and engaged. Especially those that stopped participating in any sports activities and exposed themselves to the positive benefits they offer.

Solution

• To increase the levels of women’s physical activity, get them more active, and, as a result, improve general health. • To create ideal conditions to interact and play with peers in an energetic, supportive, and safe environment • To socialise in person with peers across the community to improve social skills and build self-confidence. • Build stronger bonds to reintegrate the community back together, help find connection and support. • Experience the overall benefits of these active sessions We plan to spend the funding on training equipment, kits, and coaching qualifications.

Why are we best placed to deliver?

Trafford Handball Club was established in 2018 by Stan Belinski. Our passion drives us forward. Our mission is handball development on a local level, at scale. Handball was the fastest-growing indoor sport in England last year, so the potential is enormous. It can be played by people of all ages and abilities! Our main aim is to bring handball to Greater Manchester Community! We have a proven record of sustainably growing in numbers every year. Individuals get a chance to be a part of something bigger, which can make them grow and get better at facing future life obstacles. Our biggest achievement was getting England Handball National Championship in 2019!

Expected impact

To present an expected impact let’s use the feedback we have received from our club members so far.“I love being a part of the Trafford Handball Community. It gives me a sense of belonging being the part of the club. I wear the hoodie and feel proud to be a member. What I love about handball is that I can connect with the coaches. Sometimes my cousins are there too and that allows me to spend time with them. Stan is the head of the club, he just loves teaching handball and his passion for the sport is inspiring. Every Saturday I go to the club and Stan and the coaches always teach me something new. All of the coaches are very good and always talk to us and ask questions about how our week has been and every week I look forward to going. Being a part of Trafford Handball takes commitment, you have to go every week, be on time and try your best. After handball I always feel evergised and walk out with a smile on my face. Handball just brings me a lot of joy. I LOVE HANDBALL. Darcy”
