The Pitch

Problem statement

After consulting with our community partners in East Village. Chobham Academy, parents, and the young people themselves have identified the need for an afterschool homework club in the East Village community to improve academic attainment. They expressed that there is a lack of space in the community that young people can access to complete their homework. XLP Homework club will offer students living in East Village an opportunity to complete their homework in a supportive environment outside school hours on a Monday afternoon. With the support of trained XLP youth workers, volunteer tutors, and the East Village Community Team all of which will have completed their safeguarding training.

Solution

The goal of the project is to support a group of students from Chobham academy who do not always achieve their full potential. We know that the homework club will help • Improve their school attendance and attainment • Improve their Numeracy and Literacy skills • improve their sense of mental health and wellbeing If successful £3,000 grant will go towards the staff and project costs that will enable us to continue this project.

Track record

We are confident in our approach because of our expert understanding of the East Village community. We have benefitted from collaborating with various local organizations such as E20 Football foundation, The Hall and Chobham Academy Secondary School. Our youth workers are an integral part of the E20 community network. Being a part of this community stakeholder network has allowed us to identify current issues in East Village and tailor our youth work programmes to the current needs. We have included a reference from Chobham Academy school. XLP has been providing support in this school for over 5 years. “XLP’s involvement has had a markedly positive influence and they provide invaluable support and guidance to our young people. - Asst.
