Expected impact

Stockport is a town with high levels of social deprivation & depression, with the impact of the pandemic drastically increasing levels of unemployment & social isolation, there is a clear need for positive local engagement to help re-invigorate community spirit. We believe the Merseyway Workshop will help to improve wellbeing, provide educational development & create inclusive opportunities for employment & economic growth in Stockport. We are seeking funding for a potters wheel, as we already have a kiln for firing the ceramics, this will enable us to run a full service ceramic studio. Inviting the local community groups for taster and intermediate throwing sessions. Creativity has demonstrated to provide huge benefits for our individual & collective wellbeing. Art techniques such as pottery throwing and hand building have proven to have a positive impact & provide a therapeutic outlet for many.

Track record

The Merseyway Workshop is a collaboration between Easy Peel Studio CIC and Plastic Shed. Easy Peel have been working closely with the organisation Standard Practice since 2016 to help deliver a number of community spaces in central Manchester. Firstly to aid in the delivery of an engagement program for The Pilcrow Pub “The Pub that Manchester Built”. This was a new building where the local community had a say in every stage of the development. Easy Peel were tasked with creating the furniture for the pub via a full schedule of public engagement workshops. The end result is a Pub that the community can truly be proud of, where everything from the pump handles to the tiles on the bar were made from scratch by the local community and with a DIY ethos. Plastic Shed is a community benefit society set up to bring people from all walks of life together to reuse our plastic waste. They raise awareness of plastic pollution and educate people on the benefits of plastic as a valuable material.
