The Pitch

Problem statement
Woburn Residents' Association covers the area of Woburn Road, Henra Vale, Dunheved Fields, Hendra Gardens and Little Woburn Close. It was formed to prevent building on common land known as Woburn Green and we achieved Town/Village Green status on this area. We hold events such as barbecues, cream teas and until latterly carol services on the area which brings residents from the above areas and further afield together for social gatherings. We have several residents who live alone and these events have brought them into contact with neighbors they may not have met otherwise. There are approx 150 properties in this area.
Solution
The aim is to continue to bring people together at the same time as raising money for local charities and we need to replace a 6' x 3' tent which was damaged by high winds at a carol evening. This will give shelter from the sun and/or cover for food preparation.
Why are we best placed to deliver?
The committee members have been successfully running the Residents' Association for 10 years now and are constantly thanked for the work we do in the community. We come from various walks of life with various experience which gels to cover all aspects of the skills required.

Expected impact
We have already proved that our events are good for the well-being of the elderly and lonely as well as being a chance of residents of various parts of the estate to meet and make friends. We also have families with young children attend. It has been especially valuable following the confines of Covid and our first event following the last lockdown saw greater numbers than usual attend. We are also seeing people from the surrounding areas coming along in higher numbers.
Track record
When we began our events it was to raise funds for a memorial bench on the green and when that was achieved we started to make donations to various charities from the Memory Cafe to the Cornwall Air Ambulance, Blood Bikes, Hospital League of Friends etc. Cover from tents is vital especially on hot days and for the preparation of food.
