The Pitch

Problem statement

Gorton is home to hundreds of young people - with two high schools and several primary schools on the doorstep. These young people have had their lives turned upside down during the pandemic and have missed out on so many opportunities that would have helped them develop skills and experience for the future. In recent months, Gorton has become alive with youth opportunities and groups - but advertising and engagement is poor.

Solution

Our International Youth Day Celebration aims to bring together youth groups and organisations across Gorton to celebrate our amazing young people. The pandemic has limited opportunities and socialisation of our young people - so we wanted to celebrate their efforts and help promote youth organisations that are able to provide support and opportunities to young people. It will be a day of activities, fun and community. Funding will be used to provide activities and crafts to ensure everyone has something to take home as well as creating a mural that reflects the incredible efforts of young people through the pandemic that will be displayed in Gorton’s biggest park - Debdale.

Why are we best placed to deliver?

Over recent years the Youth Forum has been engaging with young people across the community, which has made us realise just how difficult the last two years have been on our young people. We also have several contacts within the city council and with youth organisations across the city to help support the event.

Expected impact

The event will benefit hundreds of young people in Gorton by allowing them to access different services that are available in the area which will support their physical, social and mental wellbeing as well as providing them with potential skills for life. It also increases engagement with youth clubs and services and allows them to network and gain ideas from other services in the area.
