The Pitch

Problem statement

We have been asked by local schools for help in providing a space for children to grow flowers and vegetables. As a commitee we where thrilled at this request. As this is our ideal to have spaces for all to use and to learn about the enviroment. We believe passionately that the green should be a space that enables children and the community to be apart of connecting with nature. It is our belief that by growing something this is what engages people to care about their surrondings. Our local scouts group Third Golders Green , also want to learn about growing vegetables. The Scouts will also use it for the awards such as the Duke of Edingburgh award Scheme.

Solution

The goal is to provide spaces for thease local schools and groups to use the green . By building beautiful planters that are hand crafted by a local carpenter. This will improve the enviroment and also make it a welcoming place to come for the schools and scouts. The funding will be spent on employing a carpenter to build the planters and also we would need funding for the top soil . Sadly in May a group of Travelers broke into our space and took the tools we bought previously and damaged our green. This project will reenvigorate the green and help mend the damage.

Why are we best placed to deliver?

The millenium Green Trust is embedded in the community and has been asked by the schools to do this project. As it is a community green space this is a perfect place for encouraging the young of the local area to be a part of their community. We where lucky enough to get funding from action funder before and by the use of the previoud we have improved the millenium green and therefore this was why we have approached for this new exciting project so no other organisation in the local area would be able to do this project.

Expected impact

We envisage that the impact will be life long learning for the children involved in the project. This will develop life skills. Create knowdeldge and understanding about the enviroment. This project will be able to run annually so future children from schools or communities will always have a place to learn how to grow vegetables or flowers .Encouraging children to eat what they grow therefore creating healthy eating to create a healthy life style. What we have already achieved is a space that people came to volunteer in , walk chat and meet people during the lock downs . We have created a space that people enjoy using and indeed we are pleased to say that a couple met on the green and got engaged on the green and we hope will get married on the green .

Track record

We have been running since the year 2000. We have run a joint project with Harrington Gardeners which they have used to give work placments for people who have learning disablties. We gained momey from action funder last year which funded essential garden equipment and redesigned sculpture which had previously been vandalised , also repair of our bench and also repairing our water sytem. Despite our small size we are dedicated and comited to the Millenium Green and want it to be a place of peace , beauty , play , fun and education about the enviroment.
