The bowling club attracts players of all ages who enjoy the opportunity to play an outdoor sport, whether in a team or with friends on a social event. The surface around the green is flat however ¾ of the area is Yorkshire stone flag stones which, over the years have become uneven and now present a serious trip hazard. We want to continue to encourage the local community, of all ages, to participate in bowls, whether that is for the first time or as new members. This is a sport for all ages.
The aim of the project is to create a safe environment for all persons visiting the facilities to enjoy a safe place to meet and participate in sport by replacing the broken flagstones, lifting, relaying and repointing the remaining stones to provide a flat and trip free surface. This will enable and encourage more of the local community to visit the facilities and play the sport.
Whitkirk Bowling Club is entering its 100 year of providing a Crown Green Bowling to the local community. It is a well establish and well know club around the local community of East Leeds.

It also host weekly social events too. This work will encourage greater confidence when visiting the Green and reduce the risk of tripping significantly. This will also install an improved feel for the community and encourage greater community involvement, with an aim of starting a junior league in 2022.
