The Pitch

Problem statement

We are an inclusion football team for players who are neurodiverse, have a physical disability or struggle to play mainstream football due to anxiety, depression or communication difficulties. We provide free weekly football sessions for approximately 40 males and females. We require funding to help us to continue to do this and to develop further opportunities to play competitive ability football via festivals and friendlies. We would also like to enable our players to try a range of different sports available within the community such as tennis, rugby, cricket, swimming, basketball, athletics and golf. We aim to improve confidence and self esteem and reduce isolation.

Solution

The goal of our project is to provide free accessible fun football sessions for people in North Devon. Funding is required to cover the cost of pitch fee’s, ref fee’s and coaching courses. We would like to offer teams the chance to visit us to play friendlies and take part in tournaments and festivals free of charge. We would like provide them with medals, trophies and food (as geographically the area is huge) We would also appreciate help towards the cost of travelling to tournaments held 1 1/2 hours away from us at our local FA in Newton Abbot. The expected outcome of this funding is that we will keep 40+ disabled players engaged, active and fit. We will also look to recruit new players

Expected impact

We believe that we will be able to deliver a fantastic project within our community. We are aware of what is required to deliver a successful project and how to measure our outcomes. We will be able to demonstrate that we have engaged, motivated and supported 40 + disabled people to engage in sports primarily football but not excluding other activities. We will demonstrate that we have successfully delivered ability football friendlies and tournaments engaging around 200 disabled footballers. We will have improved mental health, reduced social isolation and supported disabled people within our community to stay active and lead a healthy lifestyle. We will develop volunteers and support those wishing to take a formal coaching qualification. We will ask for feedback from players, parents and enablers in the form of questionnaires. We will provide value for money and details of measurable outcomes.

Track record

Quotes from parents “ my son has struggled to play football but just loves being a part of Braunton Ability. He has his kit on at 7 am Saturday morning although training isn’t until 11” “my son has never been part of a team until he came along to Braunton Ability. He is part of a team now and that’s wonderful” “ my son didn’t play sport or have friends until he started playing football with Braunton ability. Now at age 25 he finally has both” We are all volunteers who give our time freely to offer disabled people the opportunity to do something others take for granted. We work hard to do this. We don’t have disabled children and have no motive for doing this other than the joy of seeing others having fun and staying healthy. We do have years of experience of arranging events, tournaments, friendlies and football sessions. We have won awards but more importantly people keep coming back. Please support us to keep improving what we do best. Thank you.
