The Pitch

Problem statement

To continue to attract members at grassroots level the Club now needs to fund improvements to the ground.

Solution

1.Creation of a new wicket on the cricket square to improve the quality of the pitch. This involves the purchase of cricket loam, seed & fertiliser which would be used following the excavation of the wicket by volunteer members. 2. Restoration of Ransomes triple gang mower which has been used to cut the outfield for the past 20 years. This now needs considerable restoration work for its continued use.

Why are we best placed to deliver?

The Club has been successful in continuing to flourish over the last twenty five years because of the huge efforts of its volunteer base. We have been fortunate enough to have members with the appropriate practical skills and experience in helping to create one of the most attractive grounds in Shropshire. Many members have been with the Club since its inception and feel passionate about its continued existence and future development.

Expected impact

The Cricket Club is an integral part of the village and community and its continued success is important to the local area and also to those visiting from further afield whether to participate in or to watch games. It is important that we not only maintain but improve standards we have set to continue to attract grassroots support. The project would enable the Club to increase interest and participation from a wide range of people with differing ages and abilities by providing a much improved playing surface and an outfield at the ground that will continue to be a major attraction for both the Club's playing members and visiting teams to enjoy the ground's unique location. The impact can be measured in terms of increased participation with new memberships and visitors.
