The group would like to purchase new specialist riding tack, including saddles, bridles, coloured reins, stirrup toes caps, saddle balance handles, and leading couplings with lead reins. This would enable the group to take on more riders and take riders off the long waiting list. It would like to help riders who may want to get back to riding following an injury in addition to encouraging complete beginners to try a sport as grass roots level. Being able to have this specialist tack means riders feel more confident and safe, having increased stability and balance in the saddle.
The funding will be spent on buying new equipment for the group so that it can expand its activities in the future. The group can offer a sport which is accessible to many adults with a wide range of disabilities, for example those who may struggle to walk or be confined to a wheelchair discover the genuine delights of genuine mobility. Riders are able to explore the open countryside, not often accessible to the disabled, learn a new skill, have fun and gain confidence in a safe and supportive environment. Riders are also offered an element of excitement often denied to people with disabilities elsewhere.
The group offers riding activities for adults (over 18's) and it is the only group in the south-east that provide riding lessons for adults only. Most riding for the disabled groups focus mainly on children and spaces for adult riders in the community are limited.
