The Pitch

Problem statement

Our club has a large number of younger members, Nippers 7 - 10, who need smaller boards to practice their board skills on & to get them to feel comfortable in the sea. We have 5 of the smaller Nipper boards which is not enough for the 30+ Nipper members so it means that we often have to adjust / stagger training sessions so everyone gets a turn which in addition to reducing the time they have to practice it also utilises far more trainers ,of which we have a core of 8.

Solution

The goal of the project would be to finance 12 new Nipper boards. 2 x 1.6m - £309 each & 4 x 2m - £329 each from Swell. https://swellsurfproducts.co.uk/ This would enable us to provide boards our Nippers who generally work in pairs so would greatly assist training now & in the future.

Why are we best placed to deliver?

I am one of the lead summer trainers at the club & have an overview of club equipment. The Nippers are an integral part of the club as if we can get their interest early on they are more likely to stay & progress through the age brackets with our ultimate goal being that they will become the future RNLI Lifeguards looking after the public on our local beaches. Last year we had 6 members or ex members who were working across the Bournemouth Christchurch & Highcliffe beaches. The club provides a focus for local children & equipment is an integral part of the clubs success & being totally self-funding we are reliant on support from the membership & local community.

Expected impact

Initial impact for 30 of our Nippers but the boards have a life cycle of up to 10 years so beneficial impact for members could be in excess of 500.

Track record

We previously requested a grant from Bournemouth Water for rescue tubes for our club . Not only have the tubes been used in our beach & pool training but we have also provided a lifeguard to cover https://chilluk.org/hubs/england/dorset/chill-dorset/ The club has always had a strong community focus with fundraising for the BHF Pier to Pier swims & a New Years Dip for Macmillan Caring Locally.
