All Inclusive Crown Green Bowls

The Pitch

Problem statement
Our sport is for all ages and social groups however over 70% are over 60 years old. Bowls is a very inclusive sport and is played with no gender bias. It has a range of positive benefits including physical and mental health, providing social connections however older members who fear the sport is dying and for many is literally a lifeline with the social aspect it brings alongside the host of health benefits. We want to ensure our disabled neighbours and families can be included and increase members We have worked hard to ensure the facilities are wheelchair friendly and need support to ensure equipment available to allow participation from people of all abilities.
Solution
To provide opportunity for people of all abilities to enjoy oir wonderful sport. To be all inclusive for everyone. The funding will be spent on bowls specific equipment to aid those with additional needs such as bowling arms a bowls wheelchair, walking aids and raising awareness of our all inclusive sport to these user groups. We have a target of reaching 500 members within 3 years and want to host a regular session for those in wheelchairs to attend and be included

Our oldest member has played at our club since 1953 and the committee has a wealth of experience. We have support from the Bruce Sake trust last year to purchase a portable rollaramp to access the green themselves and have had support funding the resurface of the paths so safe for all. We have been leasing up to this point and feel ading to our equipment will be a great benefit to the community

Expected impact
We currently have zero wheelchair uses at our club as members we want to increase this to a minimum of 10% of members. We increased members in 2021 from 7 ore covid to 100 and we want to achieve 500 within the next 3 years our members are majority into their 80s and we want to change this. We have regular groups using our greens on a social basis and understand this will take time. We are in an area of Leeds that is one of the most deprived areas of the country and our sport is low cost and is now beginning to really take off and being inclusive for all is extremely important for us as a communtiy sports club.
