The Pitch

Problem statement

Needham Market Walks was set up as a request o the behalf of Mid Suffolk Council to devise walks from the new Information Centre at Needham Lake, to encourage walks, to promote the local area (tourism) and to help with general health and wellbeing. An initial £1000 has been raised to support the walking group which has been formed and to help publish a walking booklet with 11 walks which start from Needham Lake. The walks vary in length from 2 to 9 miles and incorporate local bus routes as well, so making them a total community project. 500,000 people are estimated to visit the lake this year. A sum of £2000 is required for printing the walking booklets, which will be free to visitors.

Solution

If the £2000 is raised, this will ensure 5000 booklets are available for the visitors to Lake. A 1 in 100 take up is estimated to be a realistic number because of size of groups/families visiting. Our initial run of 1600 booklets is already covered as part of the £1000 raised. The impact will be to make Needham Market a destination venue for walkers and tourists alike a hopefully improve the mental well being of those doing the walks.

Why are we best placed to deliver?

As the founder of the Charity, I have a vast experience in writing walking books and routes. I was 9 years on the National Executive of the Long Distance Walkers Association. Four years as National Group Secretary ad five years as Publicity Officer. I have written over 60 walks and 5 books have been published. I have also set up 12 walking groups, including East Lancs Long Distance Walkers and the Norfolk and Suffolk Long Distance Walkers Group. I have also written 2 walks for the Ramblers Association to celebrate 50 years. The charity has also the experience of 3 more walkers who regularly lead groups. So with these people, I believe we are well set up to achieve our objectives.

Expected impact

Mid Suffolk Council believe this will have a desirable outcome on visitors, the community at large and general health and well being of locals and visitors alike. The walking group also intend to carry out organised walks which will show local architecture and history, as well as looking at local flora and fauna. In a world where everyone is under pressure, this is a low cost, high impact project which will benefit all.

Please see my experience. I am more than happy to send over a mock booklet or previous walks I have written.
