The Pitch

Problem statement

Bundles That Love is a project created by dedicated volunteers at Bournemouth Foodbank who want to provide practical help and emotional support to families with babies and children. Boscombe, where we are based, is in the lowest decile in the 2019 Indices of Multiple Deprivation making it one of the most deprived areas in the country. In the wider Bournemouth area, one in four children live in poverty. With a record breaking rise in fuel costs, many families are having to make difficult decisions this winter between heating their homes and putting food on the table. We hope to alleviate some of the struggles that may be faced.

Solution

Here at Bundles That Love, we are passionate about supporting those in our community in the best way we can. Our aim is to bring comfort in crisis for those who need it in the Bournemouth area. We provide baby clothes, essential baby items as well as maternity wear and hygiene products for those who may be struggling to access the things that they or their child may need. We also emotionally support struggling families. We depend on donations of items which helps reduce good clothes, toys and reusable items going to waste. This additional funding will go towards providing essential items such as nappies, toys, clothing, and bedding as well as towards volunteer costs.

Why are we best placed to deliver?

Bundles That Love is a dedicated branch of Bournemouth Foodbank focusing on supporting families with babies and young children. Our vision comes from personal experience of hardship as well as recognising a need amongst the Foodbank's clients. With oversight from the Foodbank Trustees, we have successfully helped by providing over 60 bundles to families facing crisis since we started operating last summer. We can also offer emotional support from a place of shared experience which makes us unique. There are currently no other baby banks in Bournemouth so we are a first point of call for families in hardship.

Expected impact

Since last summer we have helped over 60 families access essentials. With the rising cost of living, we are already seeing a rise in demand as many more families fall into crisis. Our thoughtful and caring packages mean parents in crisis have a helping hand which reduces stress and improves the early lives of their children by creating a happier home. Over the next three months, we are preparing to help a further 50 families access items and the support that they need. Our primary aim is to offer comfort in a time of need, however, our project also has a positive environmental impact by stocking 'pre-loved' items that would have gone in landfill.
