Who will benefit
Expected impact
The impact will be huge as we will be helping clients into employment which will not only give them a sense of purpose and achievement, it will also help them financially. This can help give them more independence in their lives. Some of our clients have learning disabilities, they really value the support from our team who are trained in communicating with and supporting this client group. The support provided enables them to feel more confident and prepared. As well as help from staff, our clients support each other and encourage their peers with job applications and celebrate each others' successes. This aspect makes our job club really unique as the support that clients give each other can really help with motivation and confidence - they feel encouraged and part of a team. The impact on the staff team at Barnet Mencap will also be great as it will remove some of the pressure on the existing staff. It will also help with wait times, ensuring that clients can be seen more quickly.
Track record
We have an excellent track record. In the past year we have helped 130 clients with their CVs, job search, interview preparation and education. Out of this total, 50 have found employment. Our clients have completed education and training courses and also moved into a wide range of employment including the following: - Receptionist at the Shard - Market Stalls - Cleaners - Supermarkets including Waitrose Here is a quote from a very happy client who we have helped who works in retail "I have a learning disability and autism, and I wanted to share how difficult it was for me to get a job, and why your support is breaking down barriers to employment for people like me. Before my mum got in touch with Mencap, I'd filled in more than 60 applications... Mencap's support with employment made all the difference".
