The Pitch

Problem statement

The motivation behind the SAMA Summer Camp program stems from the pressing need to support young people in our communities. Many families struggle to provide an extra meal for their children during the holidays, leaving them vulnerable and hungry. This lack of basic nourishment affects their ability to engage, learn, and grow. Additionally, young people often lack access to positive activities, mentorship, and skill-building opportunities that are crucial for their development. Our program addresses these issues by providing meals, fostering essential life skills, building confidence, and creating a supportive community environment where youth can thrive.

Solution

The SAMA Summer Camp program aims to empower youth by providing nutritious meals, positive activities, mentorship, and skill-building workshops. Funding will cover meals and the organisation of various workshops. Our outputs include daily meals, interactive sessions on communication, teamwork, and leadership. Activities such as arts and crafts, board games, Nintendo Switch, movie watching, and outdoor sports in the local park will foster a sense of belonging, build essential life skills, and develop confident, resilient young people ready to contribute positively to their communities.

Expected impact

The SAMA Summer Camp program is expected to significantly impact the lives of participating youth and their families. By providing nutritious meals, we aim to alleviate food insecurity for many families, ensuring children receive essential nourishment during the holidays. Participants will engage in a variety of activities designed to build confidence, enhance social skills, and develop leadership abilities. We expect to see measurable improvements in participants' communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills through our workshops. Parents have consistently reported positive changes in their children's attitudes and enthusiasm for learning, which we anticipate will continue. Our target is to serve at least 100 children, with 90% showing increased confidence and resilience by the program's end. We also aim for 80% of participants to demonstrate improved social interaction and a stronger sense of community belonging.
