A Warm Haven offers a secure, comforting environment where members of our community gather every Saturday for a nourishing meal and an opportunity to seek guidance and support. Alongside addressing food insecurity and promoting health and well-being, it serves as a space to combat social isolation. In Newham, where 50% of children live in poverty and 32% face food insecurity, we welcome up to 70 individuals, including children, each Saturday. Our aim is to alleviate the difficult choices faced by families, ensuring they don't have to choose between accessing a warm space or a meal. Additionally, children can enjoy supervised playtime while their caregivers receive assistance.

By creating a warm haven that offers a hospitable environment to the community, we anticipate several changes that will affect various stakeholders: Community Members Experiencing Poverty: Enhanced Well-being: Provision of a warm space can enhance the physical and mental well-being of community members, mitigating the risks linked with exposure to cold weather. Decreased Social Isolation: The warm haven provides an opportunity for social interaction and connectivity, diminishing feelings of solitude and isolation. Measurable Objective: Gauge the rise in reported feelings of well-being and reduction in self-reported social isolation among community members utilising the warm haven. Families with Children: Improved Nutrition: Availability of hot meals ensures that families, particularly children, have regular access to nutritious food. Augmented Safety: Children benefit from a secure environment for play and interaction under supervision, while their caregivers receive support.
Over the past 5 months, we have actively engaged with members of our community, building strong relationships and trust. Each Saturday, we've served up to 115 individuals, including children, which has allowed us to establish a deep rapport with our community members. As a result, they feel comfortable confiding in us about their current challenges, enabling us to provide assistance in various ways. This support includes helping them understand their entitlements to benefits and addressing housing issues. Additionally, we've facilitated applications to charitable organizations such as Aisha Household Help, which provided vouchers worth £50 each to 20 of our members, easing their financial burdens. Furthermore, we've assisted them in applying to the council for support through initiatives like the Newham Household Scheme, which provides aid for energy costs and food provisions.
