The Arnewood School has around 1000 students attending the school aged from 11-18 years. Whilst there are large grounds outside there are no sheltered areas which means that the popular Gardening Club is very much weather dependent, and also there is nowhere sheltered for the students to sit down outside at breaktimes. The School has experienced cut backs in funding and therefore there are limited budgets for outside facilities which are seen as a luxury. Before COVID, there were as many as 30 students attending the Gardening Club who assisted the New Milton Town Council in their Britain in Bloom submission. The Club also enables children to enhance their practical skills growing vegetables.
We would like to install a Winterbourne Attached shelter to one of the larger outdoor walls to enable a sheltered area for both the Gardening Club, and also improving opportunities for outdoor learning by linking to elements in the curriculum such as science, geography and food tech/nutrition. Installing such a shelter would enable the Club to expand and attract a wider audience, and also improve the general facilities of the outdoor area. A shelter that fits the space at school is £3450. https://www.nbbschoolshelters.co.uk/Browse-by-product-application/Entrance-Shelters-Walkways/Winterbourne-Wall-Attached-Shelter
We are a charitable organisation supporting the educational needs of the School community. We work closely with the School to identify any gaps/requirements voiced by the School staff and students, and an outdoor sheltered space was the number one request by the Student School Council last year. By delivering an outdoor sheltered space, the Gardening Club and also several classes will be able to enhance their delivery of nature and nutrition aspects in the curriculum. In a time when increasing numbers of families have limited outdoor space/gardens, such a facility will be very much appreciated within the local community.

The Gardening Club would be the primary beneficiaries and a new shelter would enable it to run all year and not be weather dependent. The knock on effect of this would be that there would be more opportunities to involve local community organisations and Clubs as guests can be invited to help and demonstrate to the children. Secondary beneficiaries would be many students in different subject classes such as food tech, geography and science which could extend their teaching outside. In addition, many more of the students would benefit from a sheltered space year round, protecting from the rain in the winter and providing shade in the summer.
In 2019, the PSA tasked ourselves with fundraising to replace obsolete IT equipment at the School as it was identified that new hardware was badly needed for all the students in many subjects. We approached various businesses in the community and a local hospitality business made a significant contribution towards an overall achievement of £75,000 in fundraising. This amount enabled the School to replace all hardware in 10 IT suites used by the students. The local donor has said "We’ve worked with Arnewood and the PSA for a few years, from an HR perspective and also helping the School with IT equipment. We’ve found them extremely pro-active about supporting the educational needs of its community, and passionate about getting the best possible outcomes...." Mrs T, a hospitality business
