The Pitch

Problem statement

During Covid-19 our activities were heavily curtailed with the club having to close its doors during the lockdown period. We lost players, coaches and some equipment at this time. Since reopening the club, we have found it extremely hard to bounce back as many people have not returned to participating in physical activity or sports. We no longer have a youth mini-section due to several factors. The sustainability and future of our club rely on youngsters and mini rugby being present at our club, otherwise Rugby Union as a sport in Worksop will cease to exist. As a club that was formed in 1898, this would be tragic for the community of Bassetlaw; funding will ensure this does not happen.

Solution

Rugby in Worksop is under threat. In partnership with Outwood Academy, we will create a new mini youth team (for under 10s), introducing children to rugby and starting their rugby journey. We will offer weekly sessions engaging children in sports. Funding will be used to hire specialised coaches, new equipment/shirts, and a recruitment campaign and advertising. We would also like to upgrade our facilities by decorating 2 of our changing rooms, just for youth rugby. The impact of the project: - Secure WRUFC a future. - Increase sporting opportunities for children - Improve mental health and wellbeing - Improve physical health - Decrease loneliness and social isolation

Financially any help from funds such as this will make our goals more successful. These goals/impacts include: - Increased footfall into Worksop Rugby Club - Increase the number of volunteers involved in rugby in Worksop. Recruit from parents and move forward again which will be great for the community & WRUFC - Engage with children at the earliest stage possible, and create new opportunities for young people to participate in rugby in Worksop. - Improve partnership between local schools and community sports clubs so more young people play sports outside of school hours - Build pathways for young people so they can develop from youth players through to adult players and become involved in rugby and physical activity for their lifetime. - Improve access to positive role models - through coaches or Worksop RUFC players they meet.
