The Pitch

Problem statement

We are requesting funding support to continue to run free concerts throughout 2024. Currently, we host free lunchtime concerts on a monthly basis, either within the church or outdoors in the church gardens during the summer. Additionally, we organize specialised concerts tailored for individuals with special needs, as well as those grappling with dementia, along with their caregivers. The concerts feature students from The Royal Academy of Music and showcase a variety of musical genres in a relaxed and informal setting.

Solution

The concerts aim to bring together people in our community, providing them with entertainment regardless of their financial means. Additionally, they bring people in from beyond our local area, creating an opportunity for people to connect with others. The 2024 series will incorporate “Comfortable Classical” concerts which welcome people who may not always feel comfortable in a traditional concert setting, such as young children and people with special needs. The Music for the Moment welcome people with dementia and their friends, family, and carers. The concerts are run from St Marylebone church bi-monthly.

Why are we best placed to deliver?

St Marylebone Church boasts a rich musical tradition and a wealth of experience in hosting concerts and performances. Our venue provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere for everyone. We have recently undergone renovations to ensure accessibility for all and offer a comfortable, dry space and entertainment for all. We have a long time relationship with The Royal Academy of Music. The concerts give an opportunity for the public to listen to world class musicians at no cost and it also gives the students experience at performing.

Expected impact

St Marylebone's free music concerts have wide-ranging positive effects on our community, promoting cultural enrichment, social connection, while also supporting local talent and fostering a sense of pride and well-being. They provide access to cultural and artistic experiences that may not be accessible to everyone due to financial constraints. The concerts create opportunities for people to come together, fostering a sense of community. Attendees can interact with each other, share common interests, and build connections, contributing to a more tightly-knit and supportive community. Regarding concerts tailored to individuals with special needs, these events frequently serve as a vital source of support and respite for both the individuals themselves. The concerts provide a platform for musicians to showcase their talent. Music has the power to uplift and positively impact mental and emotional well-being. Free concerts offer residents an opportunity to relax, unwind, and enjoy.
