Early exposure to diverse and inclusive literature can have a profound impact on a child's development. It provides an accessible and engaging way to promote inclusivity, helping children understand and appreciate differences and develop empathy and compassion. By exploring characters facing various obstacles, children can learn to relate to others' struggles, fostering a sense of caring and understanding. This is especially important in group settings with children from all different backgrounds. It is so easy to feel alone and underrepresented, but through literature we can provide a gentle and age-appropriate introduction to these complex topics.
We want to create an inclusive library within our charity Playscheme; a safe and engaging space where children can develop their physical, emotional and creative skills with friends from all backgrounds. In a cosy corner, children can escape to new worlds by through reading and learning about different people, places, and cultures. By integrating these types of books into our Playscheme, we can create an enriching and inclusive environment where children not only have fun but also develop a foundation for lifelong learning, empathy, and social consciousness.
Each year our Playscheme is home to over 230 children. Our aim is simple: to deliver fun and accessible activities for children during the holiday, in a welcoming and inclusive environment. We develop children’s physical, emotional and creative skills through a vibrant and engaging programme; giving them the opportunity to be included, to make friends, and to create lifelong memories. With extensive experience in health and wellbeing we do everything in our power to support each child and family in their journey, in a fun and engaging way. We strive to do the right thing for each child, inspiring them to flourish.
