Milngavie Cricket Club has grown considerably over recent years, but our facilities and equipment remain limited. Due to the lack of fixed training facilities, our members would benefit hugely from the ability to erect temporary facilities as required, but the club lacks the funds to achieve this. The club has recently launched a Women’s team, and in 2024 we will launch our 50+ team, the “Milngavie Masters”, as we continue to expand our offering within the community. Cricket is a fantastic sport for bringing people together, staying healthy and building community engagement. In order for the club to continue to offer this to our growing membership, we need to purchase additional equipment.
The funding will be used to provide the club with a full “pop-up” training facility, that will benefit all members. The new equipment and facilities required are detailed below and will enable the club to offer greatly improved training options to our growing membership, including our new over-fifties team and recently launched ladies team. In order to create a modern and well equipped practice area, given our limited resources and facilities, the following equipment is required: Roll-out practice mat: £1,470 Pop-up practice net: £428 Bowling machine: £800 Delivery: £200 Total: £2,898
Milngavie Cricket Club is one of the fastest growing cricket clubs in Scotland. The club has a track record of success and has achieved significant development, especially in the last six years. We have grown from 1 team playing one match a week in 2018, to 3 men’s teams and a women’s team playing 6 matches per week in 2023. The club is founded on the principle of inclusivity. We are a welcoming, friendly club, supporting members of all backgrounds and abilities, and work hard to ensure that cricket is enjoyable for all. Milngavie Cricket Club is the only cricket club in East Dunbartonshire Council, and we feel a duty and responsibility to offer cricket to everyone in the community.

The club requires adequate training facilities, especially for our ange 50+ Men’s team and Women's team. Without this funding, these crucial groups lack sufficient resources for effective practice. The proposed "pop-up" facility will be a game-changer, benefiting not only these teams but also our three competitive men's teams. Anticipated outcomes include a measurable increase in attendance at practice sessions, resulting in a stronger, more competitive club, with increased focus on skills development and team cohesion. This investment will ensure equal opportunities for all members and foster increased community engagement.
Our club committee has a strong track record of delivering improvements and developing the club for member benefit. We've successfully secured deals with equipment suppliers, negotiated access to training facilities and grounds, and secured several sponsorship deals. This proactive approach has driven rapid club growth while ensuring comprehensive support for our members at all levels. Our commitment to continuous improvement and member support underscores our capability to effectively manage and deliver projects for the club's development. Under such stewardship, the club has grown rapidly in terms of members and teams. In 2018 the club had 1 men’s team with 15 players that played 10 matches. Now, in 2023, the club had 3 men’s teams and a women’s team, with over 70 registered players, playing a total of over 75 matches.
