The Pitch

Problem statement

Golden Hill Cricket Club has a thriving Women's and Girls' section and a passion for delivering high-quality experiences for all cricketers at our club. In order to fulfil this obligation, we need to further invest in coaching qualifications for volunteers and protective equipment for girls starting out in the game. With 150 girls involved in cricket at our club (having grown from none in 2016), we need to furnish our coach volunteer group (all parents) with the necessary skills to coach an ever-growing section of our club, igniting and fostering a life-long passion for cricket and developing skills both on and off the field. If successful, the funding will go towards coaching and equipment!

Solution

To upskill and further develop our coaching workforce to engage, coach, encourage, support and develop all of our young female cricketers at the club. This enables us to send coaches on ECB-accredited training and to have the necessary equipment and resources to deliver high-quality cricket sessions -- training and matches alike.

Why are we best placed to deliver?

Golden Hill Cricket Club is the largest cricket club in the South West and has a proven record in providing cricket for a whole community (junior and senior cricket alike). The club is in an excellent position to engage with county and talent pathways as an ECB Clubmark and Disability Champion club, equipping Golden Hill to fulfil its intention and aims of being equitable, diverse and inclusive!

Expected impact

If successful, this would enable more girls and women to enter the game and develop more skills on and off the field, bringing together people from across the communities we serve through sports. It would also allow us to upskill our coaching workforce and provide members, volunteers and other community members with high-quality facilities that deliver value for personal and club development.

Track record

Golden Hill Cricket Club, formerly YMCA Cricket Club, was first formed in 1878 and now boasts eight Saturday league sides, two senior women's league sides and provides cricket for U8 to U19 for both boys and girls with 150 in each junior section. We are a large club, catering to players of all ages and abilities. Our senior men's and women's both play at the highest level of the amateur club game and our youth sections have gone from one or two teams in 2009 to twelve boys' sides and eight girls' sides today. The club has become a pioneer for disability and inclusive cricket and is recognised by the ECB as a Disability Champion Club, providing cricketing opportunities for all. Our track record demonstrates our ability, as a club, to maximise our resources and become a pillar of its community.
