The Pitch

Problem statement

Cleator Moor has a high rate of poverty and children receiving free school meals. We help those in need whilst also providing a service to the community through our Cafe. We offer free breakfast to all school children and free lunch boxes during the school holidays. We also have a ‘pay it forward’ scheme so the community helps those in need also.

Solution

The goal is to help people tackle food poverty. The funding would be spent providing meals for those in need, providing free toast or porridge to children on their way to school, donating to our local food project and making sure people don’t need to be hungry. The impact would be better learning for children, feeling less alone for members of the community who have nowhere else to turn.

Why are we best placed to deliver?

I Care deeply about my community and making sure that no one goes to bed hungry through poverty. I think I have the empathy to help those in need alongside running a successful business. The more people feel that someone cares about them helps to reduce mental health issues and helps people to feel more motivated to seek help and support themselves better.

Expected impact

I believe it would have a huge impact on people in need, suffering from poverty and unable to feed themselves. Being fed and feeling like someone actually cares has a huge impact on health, mental wellbeing, learning, motivation and self esteem. By using funding and my skills to provide for people, I would also like to get the community involved in a ‘pay it forward’ scheme, building good community feeling brings communities together in a shared desire. By working with agencies we can measure the impacts it has on people through feedback from beneficiaries and agency workers.

Track record

We have successfully provided free breakfasts and lunch boxes since we opened in May and have had lots of positive feedback how this has helped families who are struggling
