Expected impact

Action for Children is supporting disadvantaged children and their families in North Devon to be active and independent. Our new project Pedal Power, in partnership with cycling charity Ride On, teaches children aged six-16 how to ride and fix bikes. Before launching, we tested demand with free cycling lessons and maintenance training in Barnstaple. Monthly sessions now run with a project support worker from Ride On both on-site at our children's centre in North Devon and at local schools within the wider community. Our project, in collaboration with Ride On, has been developed in consultation with our community, who have voiced their interest in practical sport, including cycling, and having the opportunity to foster life skills. We would be reaching at least 210 disadvantaged children and adults with the funding.
