Who we are
Description
New Forest Transition (NFT) formed in 2008 with a core group of around 40 individuals. It's mission and purpose are supporting our local communities by encouraging more sustainable lifestyles and economies. All our projects are designed to encourage sustainable living, and to benefit our local communities in making long-lasting, healthy changes to lives and the environment. ➢ Transition’s first big project, The New Forest Food Challenge, received a grant in 2009 to promote the local food economy and to encourage people to grow some of their own food. The project ran for over 8 years and interacted with over 14,000 event participants, from pre-schools to retirement homes. Food demonstrations were run to introduce local produce and to reduce food waste. ➢ Transition’s next initiative - Schools Energy Project - started in 2012 to promote energy efficiency in schools in the New Forest area. It has had funding from Hampshire County Council, Southern Gas and Southern Water.
