Grampian Society for the Blind, operating as North East Sensory Services (NESS)
Who we are
Description
Headquartered in Aberdeen, with additional Resource Centres in Elgin & Dundee & an office in Friockheim, Angus, NESS provides information, equipment, practical & emotional support to over 6,000 blind, deaf, visually & hearing impaired people of all ages. Originally established in 1879, NESS is now sector leader in Scotland, uniquely delivering joint sensory services in line with our Mission of “Achieving Independence for Blind and Deaf People”. We address the needs of those who, through severe sight and/or hearing loss, are unable to enjoy the same levels of independence as others & may often feel socially isolated; we enable them to deal with the impacts of their sensory loss on their own terms. Our charitable services & groups help young people develop their confidence & independence, support socially isolated older people, & offer employment, accessible IT, hospital information & transcription services as well as online sensory awareness training.
