We use drumming as a tool to achieve positive creative, educational and personal outcomes for vulnerable young people in east London. Approximately 600 people take part weekly in our school, community and progression programmes, 85% of whom are under 25. We work with schools and local partners to identify people who will benefit most, including those from lower socio-economic backgrounds / at risk of exclusion / living with disabilities or special educational needs / with social, emotional or mental health needs. Through high-quality, engaging music sessions led by experienced professional musicians we develop participants’ confidence, break down social barriers and build a supportive community where everyone can thrive. Evidence has shown that participation in Drum Works can help to build confidence, resilience and self-belief; develop social and collaborative skills; increase engagement with education; and improve mental health and wellbeing.
