Sporting Hackney FC

Who we are

Description

Sporting Hackney FC (www.sportinghackney.co.uk) is a community football club that provides football coaching and competitive opportunities for around 100 players aged between 15 and 50+ from one of the most disadvantaged areas of London. Founded in 1986 as a youth unemployment project, we now run five teams plus two local community projects. The aim of our competitive structure is to provide a pathway for local young players from deprived backgrounds to move from youth to adult football, helping to redress the gap which sees many teenagers from low income backgrounds drop out of football and stop participating in regular sporting activities. The community projects, run in partnership with charitable organisations, use football as a vehicle to provide health, fitness and social development programmes to hard-to-reach groups, including young men largely from black and ethnic minority backgrounds, and older BAME men with long-term mental and physical health problems, and social issues.
