Who we are
Description
The Listening Place is London's only charity providing free and 100% confidential support via ongoing appointments to people struggling with suicidal feelings. We have three sites in London where our volunteers deliver in-person appointments seven days a week from 9am to 9pm. We deliver up to 150 appointments a day, and have an active volunteer population of 725. We are now receiving an average of 660 referrals a month, a number which has risen steadily since we first opened our doors seven years ago. Our work addresses the urgent need for tailored support for people who feel suicidal. We operate without a waiting list, contacting each referral within 24 hours and offering a first appointment within a week of referral. Of 26,000 referrals, 20 people who accessed support went on to take their own life. Every suicide is tragic, but this indicates that our support can make a positive difference in the lives of our visitors.
