Project Food

Who we are

Description

Project Food works in small towns in East Devon and South Somerset: in neighbourhoods that are the most deprived locally. We provide tailored support to help people eat better, so they enjoy improved physical and mental health. We help people to learn how to cook and eat nutritious food, particularly those who are experiencing disadvantage or are in poor health and children and young people. Poor food leads to poor health which can affect people's incomes, so they struggle to afford healthy food and so their health gets worse. This is one of the main reasons for health inequalities. We’ve been working for over 19 years (previously as HALFF) to break this cycle of injustice. We have always understood that why people eat what they eat is a very complex issue: it is not just about the food itself, but also about wider issues, such as education, knowledge & skills, self-esteem & motivation, and family & culture.
