Who we are
Description
Established in 2015, Breaking Barriers is a specialist employment charity with a clear purpose: to help people of a refugee background into meaningful work with advice, experience and education. We exist to help break down the barriers refugees face and to support them to build a new life here in the UK. We do this by providing high impact, person-centred employability and education support to all our clients, for as long as they need. Our team of expert advisers and qualified volunteers build supportive and trusting relationships with clients that help to ensure long-term engagement that achieves positive employment outcomes. Refugees are an under-represented group in terms of the employment market as they suffer an unemployment rate 4x higher than the rest of the UK population. With having a very limited understanding of the UK's job market and recruitment culture, support identifying developmental opportunities is fundamental to them accessing meaningful, lasting employment.
