Commonwealth War Graves Foundation

Who we are

Description

The Commonwealth War Graves is a global leader in the commemoration of the Commonwealth servicemen and women who died during the First and Second World Wars. It comprises the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) and its charitable arm the Commonwealth War Graves Foundation (CWGF). The CWGC was founded by Royal Charter in 1917 and works on behalf of six member nations: Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, India and the United Kingdom to honour and commemorate almost 1.7 million Commonwealth individuals by caring for cemeteries, memorials and war graves at 23,000 locations in more than 150 countries and territories around the world. The CWGF was founded in 2017 as the charitable arm of the CWGC and our mission is to engage and inform the public - especially the young - with the CWGC's work and to share the stories of the Commonwealth’s dead from the World Wars, keeping their memories alive for future generations.
