Doe Hey Bowling and Social Club

Who we are

Description

The Club uses a Bolton MBC crown green bowling green in Farnworth. We are situated in one of the top 7% of deprived wards in the country. We run a Veterans (60+) and a open age team that play in local leagues. The average age of Members is 72. Finance is a big problem for us as the only maintenance the Council undertakes on the green is grass cutting. We have to pay contractors to do work that needs specialist equipment such as scarifying and spiking. We also pay for materials such a Spring and Summer feed, top dressing, seed and lawn sand for weed and moss control. The total each year can be up to £900 depending on the weather. In addition, our members pay the Council a yearly green fee of £72 and £2 per game to the Club. This latter amount does not cover our green maintenance, League fees, insurance and match refreshment costs. Although competitive, bowls is very much a social sport and crucial to our Members from a longevity, camaraderie, exercise and wellbeing perspective.
