Zero Carbon Guildford is a new charity set up by the local community to build a community-led climate action plan for our borough. We have opened a physical space in Guildford town centre, called ZERO, as the focal point for this project. ZERO has a 3 tiered strategy. It is focused on environmental and climate education and engagement of the wider community, outside of the 'climate bubble'. ZERO hosts a wide variety of events designed to engage residents and businesses in sustainable and regenerative practices. But education alone isn't enough. People fail to engage in climate action for 2 main reasons; either confusion on how to cut their environmental footprint, or overwhelm and disempowerment from the negative emotions associated with learning about climate change, including anxiety, grief, anger, depression. ZERO therefore provides practical local solutions to the global crisis, as well as mental health and wellbeing support through trained ecotherapists and practitioners.
