Fund purpose
Strand 3 – Training and Capability Building Fund purpose The Community Energy Capacity Fund is designed to support community-led initiatives that build skills, knowledge, and capability to reduce carbon emissions and strengthen resilience to the impacts of climate change. The fund enables groups within the borough to apply for financial support to develop or deliver community energy projects that support local solutions to energy demand and supply. Community energy focuses on collective action to generate, manage, purchase, or reduce energy use. Projects should demonstrate strong local engagement and leadership, ensuring that the benefits are shared within the local community. Projects should clearly show how they will contribute to carbon reduction. This can include developing community-led renewable energy projects, undertaking retrofit activities, encouraging behaviour change on energy use, or providing training, education, and capacity-building that enables future energy-saving activity. This fund can be used to build local capability within community organisations, including training, upskilling, awareness-raising, and developing the capacity needed for future project delivery. Who can apply? ✔ Community organisations and voluntary groups ✔ Charitable organisations ✔ Social enterprises and community interest companies ✔ Other eligible local groups working for community benefit Proposals should: ✅ Demonstrate how they contribute to carbon reduction and climate resilience ✅ Benefit the wider community ✅ Have a clear and achievable project plan ✅ Offer value for money Applicants should provide quotes for relevant activity as part of the application to help demonstrate value for money.
